3rd round out of our Port Macquarie camp was at Port Mac itself. Greens had just been sanded and I could only play 9 so I can’t really make a full assessment.

The course has been carved out of native melaleucas, is very picturesque and is set on mildly undulating land. It has predominantly kikuyu fairways and tees which were in pretty good condition in October, but the greens had just been cored and heavily sanded. Fairways are quite generous in general and it can get pretty gnarly out wide as those melaleucas are thick in places, while there are also some pines and gums.

It does look really well manicured and the layout of the front 9 was pretty good. It is well bunkered and there is water present on a number of the holes on the front side. The 2nd hole was a ripper (main photo above) and a scary proposition from the tee, with water and thick stuff right, the water then sweeps left and across part of the fairway at about 230m, trees protruding from the left meaning a lay up off the tee or a strong draw with 3 wood or driver. The approach is to a flat green with a bunker short right.

Overall, it is a busy club with a good looking track and an appealing layout that I must play the back 9 of some day
