Course 72, Iluka, NSW
Fantastic little town, and a ‘holiday’ golf course

Mid-October and we were on the road, staying in Iluka for a 3-course stretch. Second course up is in the lovely little town of Iluka itself, right on the coast and across the mouth of the Clarence from it’s big sister in Yamba, but much quieter.
I’d call this a 9 hole ‘holiday course‘; best suited for bringing a non-playing mate to wheel the esky around. Fairways were pretty rough (mainly kikuyu, can see bits of couch) and not defined, greens are couch and were sanded a couple of days before my round. Sparse tree lined fairways, sandy base so the thin rough gets you some sandy lies which is good. There are a few bunkers around, which are quite well placed but there’s not much imagination in the layout.
The par 3 8th/ 17th is a pretty good hole though – 167m from the back, into the prevailing breeze, to a narrow green, with a dozen or so medium sized gums and pines on the right, an open left side but a bunker short left.
In the racing vernacular, there’s better value elsewhere!
