Course no.2 – Maryborough, Vic

The lasting memory of this course is of large gums that overhang the fairways and place a large premium on straight driving. They don’t leave much room for the big slice to start left and work back to the centre! Gums, Golden Wattle and plenty of native birds live here. Lots of straight holes and hitting targets rather than plotting your way around………

Par 70, 5457m, slope 125, $20 green fee

4 par 3s from 118 – 192m, 12 par 4s from 312 – 366m, 2 par 5s of 450 & 465m

The course is home to a wide range of birds, with fairways lined by large native trees. The golden wattle is the signature tune here, delivered best in Spring. The layout didn’t excite me much, lots of up and back without much need for thinking about how to play a hole. Greens are well watered, while those large encroaching trees make driving difficult.  6 and 8 were my favourite holes.  6 is a 162m par 3 set amongst trees, requiring a precise mid-iron while 8 is a 362m par 4 turning right, with trees narrowing as you approach the green.
