Course no.1 – Avoca, Vic
On a stinking hot (42 degrees C) day early in the new year, this track was tinder dry. It’s a winter course with an interesting layout and has hosted the Victorian State Sandgreens Championship. The best bet here is to plan a round in the winter or you could attempt your longest drive ever in the middle of summer…….

Par 68, 5349m, slope 114, $10 green fees
5 par 3s from 117 – 193m, 12 par 4s from 276m – 407m, 1 par 5 of 442m
Black scrapes, and the course was as dry as a chip. 42 degrees C the day I played. Interesting layout, enjoyable, with different shaped shots required around large gums. 3 fantastic par 3s were the highlight for me: 2 (117m to the front side of a cliff with a fence over the back; very unusual and requires precise club selection and execution), 14 & 17 (both over 190m with one needing a fade and the other a draw to small scrapes. Both are great aesthetically and very tough.) The short par 4 15th is also a ripper, turning right between trees with elevation changes; a bit of local knowledge required on club choice and shape here. The club has hosted the Vic Sandgreens Championship in 2019. I would play this course again, outside of Summer.
